More about MIVEC Turbo Diesel Engine

Powered by a new aluminum alloy block 2.4-litre MIVEC Turbo Diesel Engine with VGT Intercooler, the new Triton is now more powerful and more fuel efficient. The new Triton is also the first with diesel engine in the segment to use MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic control system) variable valve timing technology.

Previously only available on Mitsubishi’s petrol engines, MIVEC allows for finer control of the valves.

Thanks to improvements in common rail diesel technology, diesel fuels can now combust at much lower pressure, leading to reduced noise and emissions. However precise control of the valves is necessary to maintain cold-start performance.

With MIVEC finely controlling the valves, improvements in all areas of performance can now be realised. The lower pressure in the combustion chamber also means that it is possible to use lightweight aluminum alloy material for the engine block.

By using lightweight aluminum instead of a traditional cast iron material, the new engine is about 30kg lighter than before, while at the same time retaining the same level of reliability and robustness that all Mitsubishi 4x4s are known for.

Engine performance has also been improved, with output now rising to 181 PS of power and 430 Nm of torque, while consuming up to 15 percent less fuel (Actual fuel consumption results may vary according to driving style, vehicle conditions and other factors). With reduced kerb weight and increased power output, overall acceleration and driving performance has also been improved.

Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) has also been improved making the new Triton a quieter and comfortable drive.

The use of timing chain also means reduced maintenance cost, and longer service lifespan.

More about New Triton

The new Triton now comes in six variants, allowing it to meet the needs of a wide range of customers.

The new Triton VGT Adventure X variant is now flagship of the Triton range. It comes standard with   rugged looking accessories like a Shield Extender for the front bumper, new Sports Bar with Fullbox, and Dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels.

The existing Triton VGT AT & VGT MT has also been upgraded. On top of the new engine, Automatic Bi-Xenon HID Headlamps with integrated LED Daytime Running Lights and rear fog lamps are now available as standard. The VGT MT model has also been upgraded with a new 6-speed manual transmission.

All 4×4 models  are equipped with Mitsubishi’s signature Easy Select 4WD system that optimizes torque distribution between the front and rear axles. By simply turning the 4WD Selector , drivers can select between 2WD-Hi and 4WD-Hi while driving at speeds of up to 100km/h, or to 4WD-Lo for the most challenging off-road conditions. The Easy Select 4WD system has been continuously improved for over two decades. It is a robust drivetrain that is able to handle high torque levels.

The new Triton retains its predecessors of best-in-class feature of 5.9 meters turning radius.

As before, all new Triton models are imported as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) vehicle from Mitsubishi Motors’ global production hub in Thailand.

Prices and colour options for all six variants are as listed in the table below:

Adventures with the All-New Triton to Tip of Borne...

Kudat, Sabah 27 May 2016 - Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the official distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in Malaysia, organized a two-day exploration trip to Tip of Borneo, Kudat, in conjunction with the Penampang 4×4 Kaamatan Expedition. The expedition was adventurous and arduous, meant to prove the capabilities of the Mitsubishi Triton as a tough and durable vehicle with superb handling and ride comfort.

23

The overall journey covered a total distance of 415km of mixed on-road and off-road terrain, which proves to be a challenge for vehicles to adjust to the ever-changing road surface.

The standard Mitsubishi Triton as it left the showroom remained in pristine condition. The tougher and better truck since 1977 was capable of handling tough terrains during the two-day expedition. The Triton’s Easy Select 4WD system has also ensured the convoy with a comfortable, convenient and confident drive.

The expedition consisted of eight Tritons – comprising members of the media, 4×4 club members and off-road driving enthusiasts. The drive consisted of 50 4×4 vehicles and was flagged off by Chief Executive Officer of MMM, Mr. Yang Won-Chul.

7

Participants made their way to the flag-off point along Jalan Bundusan, and proceeded on a 102km convoy on tarmac to Kampung Toburon, Kota Belud.

The journey took the participants on a challenging 17km off-road trail before stopping for a picnic lunch and breathtaking view treat at Teringai Beach.

12

Thereafter, the convoy drove for another 16km off-road terrain to test the toughness and capabilities of the Triton. The convoy then stopped at Tindakon Dazang Beach Longhouse in Kudat, for a buffet dinner of BBQ and local dishes before making their way to TSM Merrimas Villa to call it a night.

36

The following day, participants were treated to lifestyle activities, such as snorkeling, island excursions, as well as cycling and visiting the Tip of Borneo monument. After lunch, participants continued their adventurous journey with another 210km drive back to Pacific Sutera Harbour where they officially ended the Borneo Triton Adventure drive.

More about the All-New Mitsubishi Triton.

The all-new Triton has been developed to be the “Ultimate Sport Utility Truck”, combining the comfortable interior of a passenger car with the functionality and reliability of a pickup. Muscular, sleek and dynamic styling which evokes the form of a well-honed athlete, the all-new Triton also provides generous interior space, ample payload capacity, and class-leading handling.

The front design is characterised by a distinctive grille design which, together with the stylish headlamps, gives a strong 3-dimensional look to the bonnet. Viewed in profile, the all-new Triton has a forward flowing design and a ‘J-line’ between the cabin and rear deck which is an innovative solution to maximize interior space while providing plenty of cargo volume.

Just as the previous generation of the Triton set new standards in the pick-up segment, its successor also brings to the segment first-in-class features such as Push Start Button, Keyless Operation, Xenon HID Headlamps with integrated Daytime Running Lights, Tilt and Telescopic Steering and Paddle Shifters for manual control of the automatic transmission when the driver wants it.

The all-new Triton also comes with a powerful engine performance with maximum output of 178 horsepower, maximum torque of 400Nm and a turning radius of 5.9 metres.

Subsequently, new features in the all-new Triton include 4WD selector, Touch Screen Audio System with Reverse Camera, Auto Headlamps and Wipers, and Dual Zone Climate Control.

(Features for each variant may differ.)

Performance

Safety

Like other Mitsubishi models, High Safety performance is a top priority. The all-new Triton has Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction which uses high tensile steel that effectively absorbs and disperses crash energy from all directions while also significantly reducing overall weight. Impact bars has been added within the side doors for additional protection against side collisions.

Other safety features that are standard across the range include dual SRS airbags, a collapsible steering column and anti-intrusion brake pedal, which is made to fold away during an accident. Anti-lock braking (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) is also available. EBD reduces the possibility of skidding when the rear end is light and the wheels may lock up on slippery conditions while braking.
