Mitsubishi innovative electric concept cars at KL ...

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, the importer and distributor of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in Malaysia, will showcase the Mitsubishi innovative electric concept cars at the upcoming KL International Motor Show 2010 from 3-12 December.

Themed Drive@Earth, the main attractions at the Mitsubishi pavilion are the Concept PX-MiEV and the i-MiEV SPORT AIR Concept, innovative electric powered vehicles that preview the future of motoring.

Two unique show vehicles are set to amuse many. Both Concept PX-MiEV and i-MiEV SPORT AIR combine eco friendliness with the driving pleasure that has become synonymous with the Mitsubishi Motors brand.

The Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV is a plug-in hybrid crossover powered by the latest Mitsubishi Plug-in Hybrid System. This all-new system was designed to allow the vehicle to be driven in full-electric mode, with a 1.6-litre MIVEC gasoline engine generating electricity to assist the front and rear electric motors as and when required. This eliminates the issue of limited range, which has so far confined EVs to being city cars.

Blending Mitsubishi’s sporting heritage with leading EV expertise, the i MiEV SPORT AIR is a concept for a sporty electric vehicle (hence SPORT) with a detachable “clear cutaway” roof panel which brings a wide open feel to the interior (hence AIR).

As a sports version of the i-MiEV, the SPORT AIR uses a more powerful version of the permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that powers the standard car, generating 60 kW of power and 230 Nm of torque (i-MiEV makes 47 kW and 180 Nm).

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia will also be displaying its latest models at KLIMS 2010 – the ASX compact crossover and the Lancer Sportback sedan, enhanced with additional parts and accessories to inspire the public and owners on the possibilities available to them.

The all new ASX compact crossover was launched in Malaysia last month and has received encouraging response for its city friendly ‘Smart Size’, high quality interior, nippy handling and trendy looks.

The Lancer Sportback is a stylish and sporty hatchback as it is, but the KLIMS showcar ups the ante with original Ralliart parts in and out. The popular Triton pick-up truck is also displayed with additional kit.

The legendary Pajero 4X4 and Pajero Sport GS SUV will also be showcased with dressed-up equipment.

A Ralliart merchandise counter will offer original merchandise to fans at attractive prices.

Visit the Mitsubishi Motors’ KLIMS 2010 pavilion at Tun Razak Hall 4 (Level 4), PWTC KL from 3-12 December. For more information on Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia’s range of cars, visit your nearest showroom.

Double award joy for Mitsubishi Triton and Pajero ...

ASEAN Autocars awards

Winning awards has become a yearly affair for Mitsubishi vehicles. This time around, monthly car magazine Autocar ASEAN has awarded two category wins in its annual awards to the facelifted Mitsubishi Triton and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GL. The former won best in the Pick-up category while the Pajero Sport was named best Large SUV

The Triton has made the best Pick-up award its own since it was launched in Malaysia in 2006, claiming the title no less than four times from Autocar ASEAN and four times from New Straits Times/Maybank Car of the Year Awards. In 2009, the Triton won best Pick-up awards from both publications and has successfully defended the titles. It’s also the only truck in Malaysia that can claim to have an entire range of award-winning variants.

“The Triton received a facelift last year but that was all it needed to stay on top of its class. Its cabin is still the most welcoming among its rivals and that goes a long way in making the Mitsubishi a deserved winner,” Autocar ASEAN chief judge Chips Yap said of the Triton, which was refreshed late last year with fresh looks, more features and a larger cargo bed. The contenders competing for best Pick-up were variants of the Ford Ranger and the Nissan Navara.

The Pajero Sport SUV is also fast becoming a favourite. The GS 4X4 variant won the Large SUV award from Autocar ASEAN last year and the new GL variant has done the same this year, impressing the judges by being “large, spacious, hardy and equipped with modern diesel engines”. Since coming on the scene in 2009, the seven-seater Pajero Sport – which counts space, ride comfort, robustness, economy and a Dakar Rally heritage as its strengths – has been a serial winner. It’s also the reigning Large SUV champion at the NST/Maybank COTY Awards 2009.

“We’re so happy that the Triton and Pajero Sport have continued to impress the people who test vehicles day in day out. It’s no easy task when they’re so experienced, which is why this endorsement speaks volumes of Mitsubishi’s expertise and track record in designing the best 4X4 vehicles,” said Tetsuya Oda, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia.

The technical collaboration between Mitsubishi Mot...

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) Japan has collaborated with Proton Holdings Berhad (Proton) for many years and most recently, the technical support provided to Proton for the development of the new Inspira.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia wishes to state that other than the Lancer, no other Mitsubishi models currently distributed by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), including its recently launched vehicles – the all-new Lancer Sportback (October) and the ASX compact crossover (November) will be based on this technical collaboration in the future.

While the Inspira is modeled after the Mitsubishi Lancer, it differs in a number of ways – with both having its own unique traits, allowing each respective vehicle to differentiate itself in the marketplace. Each brand also caters to a different group of customer segments with a different set of driving desires and expectations.

Exported to Malaysia and distributed by MMM, the Lancer is a Completely Built-Up Unit (CBU) – in which all parts and assembly standards have met Mitsubishi Motors’ stringent global quality standards.

In addition to being fully manufactured by MMC in Japan, the Mitsubishi Lancer is also designed and produced to meet the highest European (high-speed driving performance and handling), American (safety) and Japanese (vehicle built) quality standards.

The Inspira, on the other hand, is assembled at Proton’s facility in Shah Alam and will contain 40% local parts within the year.

Exclusively for Lancer owners, MMM offers a five year warranty programme in addition to a complimentary two year maintenance programme on all parts and labour.

MMM’s extensive sales and service network includes 54 service centres and 41 sales outlets nationwide – out of which 15 are 3S (Sales, Service and Spare parts) centres. MMM intends to increase its sales network to 45 by March 2011 with 27 3S centres.

On top of that, Lancer owners enjoy the assurances that come with purchasing a vehicle renowned for its 90 year brand heritage. Mitsubishi is also one of the leading global automakers in the world and has a long successful history in motorsports.

Through MMM, MMC continues to strengthen its presence in Malaysia. Mitsubishi is now one of the top four brands within the non-national car segment in Malaysia.

Mitsubishi ASX crossover launched...

SUV utility meets sedan agility in Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia’s new model

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, the official importer and distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in Malaysia, launched its latest model nationwide today – the highly anticipated Mitsubishi ASX compact crossover. This stylish global model was developed to combine the utility and practicality of an SUV with the comfort of a sedan in just the right size.

Mitsubishi ASX

Mitsubishi ASX

The ASX (Active Smart X-over – pronounced as ‘crossover’) was launched in Japan by the name of RVR in
February this year.

The ASX is available in five colours; including the signature Kawasemi Blue (Kawasemi is the Japanese name for Kingfisher bird). Priced at RM136, 208.10 on the road excluding insurance, it is fully imported from Japan.

Adding another passenger vehicle to the Mitsubishi range in Malaysia, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia is targeting monthly sales of 100 units for this model.

“The new ASX is a brilliant urban vehicle – it is stylish, drives well, compact on the outside yet spacious inside, combining the good points of an SUV and a sedan. It has been very well received across the globe and I’m confident that the ASX will appeal to Malaysians as well,” said Tetsuya Oda, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia.

(L-R) CEO Tetsuya Oda, Michiko Yamada from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Japan (MMC), Head of Marketing &
Product Planning Adeline Lew, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia and COO Omar Haron, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia.

“The ASX will enable us to compete in the new, fast-growing two-wheel drive compact SUV market segment in Malaysia and allow us to attract new customers to the Mitsubishi brand. Malaysians will now have an even greater range of vehicles to choose from,” added Oda.

The ASX is powered by a 2.0-litre engine with DOHC, 16 valves and Mitsubishi’s proprietary MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control) technology that optimises valve timing at all points in the rev range. This lightweight, aluminium block engine produces a powerful workhorse of 150 PS and 197 Nm torque.

Responsible for good fuel economy are smooth aerodynamics (Cd 0.33) and reduced weight. The former is achieved by lowering the rear roof edge and smoothening the under floor of the ASX, while engineers trimmed weight by using fenders made of resin. Other contributors include the use of electronic control power steering, reduction of engine friction plus the change in the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) system control and gear ratio.

Equipment levels are generous. The ASX comes with standard Active Stability Control (ASC), Hill Start Assist and dual front airbags plus a driver’s knee airbag. Also included are leather seats, 2 DIN LCD touch screen entertainment system, reverse camera, automatic air conditioning and
cruise control. There is also a full colour LCD multi information system in the instrument panel.

For those owners who want to spice up their ASX, Mitsubishi Motors genuine accessories are available from Japan. There are 13 optional accessories to choose from such as aerokits, shift knob, scuff plates, luggage mat and many more. On top of that, Mitsubishi is offering a special package price of RM 6,490 for all 13 items.

The new Mitsubishi ASX comes with a 3-year/100,000 km warranty. Mitsubishi’s 2-Year Free Maintenance package is also offered for owners to enjoy a hassle-free drive with free maintenance parts and labour costs.

The ASX will be showcased at Centre Court of Midvalley shopping centre from 10-14 November, where visitors can touch and feel the car. Ralliart merchandise will also be on sale at the event.

More about Mitsubishi ASX

Not bulky in footprint at under 4.3 metres long, but spacious enough inside thanks to a generous 2,670 mm wheelbase, the development team chose a ‘Smart Size’ for the ASX.

It’s more compact than a conventional C-segment SUV, but is upsized from a compact car and has the commanding seating position owners love in an SUV. Turning radius is a class leading 5.3 metres. No need to choose between sedan agility and SUV utility, the ASX offers both.

The trendy and urban styling of the ASX is distinctive, thanks to the trademark Mitsubishi “jet fighter” front
grille and assertive headlamps. The prominent design line on the flanks and a gently curving roof line make up the dynamic profile.

To harness the power and provide a seamless drive, the ASX 2.0-litre engine is mated to an INVECS-III CVT gearbox with 6-step Sports Mode. Besides selection via the gear lever, Sports Mode can be engaged with the generously sized magnesium steering paddles, which allows the driver to switch from smooth progress to sporty driving anytime.

The ASX comes with a host of active and passive safety features. Mitsubishi’s strong and rigid RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body protects occupants by employing strategic front and rear crumple zones to absorb and disperse impact, while the use of high tensile steel provides strength without the weight penalty.

In addition to ABS and EBD, the ASX comes with Active Stability Control (ASC) as standard. ASC applies brake pressure and regulates engine torque when the system detects loss of traction. This helps keep the car on the intended path. The all independent suspension (front MacPherson struts and rear multi-link, both with stabilizer bars) has been tuned for a high level of agility and stability.

Another feature is Hill Start Assist, which works to prevent the car from sliding backwards on a slope.

The ASX comes with dual front airbags plus a driver’s knee airbag.

The simple yet stylish cabin features quality soft touch panel and luxurious leather seats. The tilt and telescopic steering wheel and gear knob are also leather wrapped. The comprehensive equipment list also includes a 2 DIN LCD touch screen entertainment system incorporating a reverse camera, automatic air conditioning with air filter and cruise control.

There is also a full colour LCD multi information system nestled between the sporty main dials. For added convenience, the ASX comes with automatic retractable door mirrors.

The ASX was also shown to the world at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March. The ASX was inspired by the Mitsubishi Concept-cX shown at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The show star received good response, and Mitsubishi Motors set out to build a compact crossover that carries the brand’s trademark bold design and strong driving performance.
